The Graduate Studies in Interpreting and Translation (GSIT) program in the Department of Communication at the University of Maryland invites applications for Lecturers to teach one to four classes per semester for the 2014-2015 academic year and beyond.
New instructors are needed as the GSIT program grows and welcomes both first-year and second-year students to campus this fall.
Highly qualified instructors are sought to teach introductory and advanced courses in translation and interpreting, including both skills-based and content-based courses, such as Fundamentals of Interpreting, Fundamentals of Translation, Translation for Specific Domains, Consecutive Interpreting, Simultaneous Interpreting, and Translation Technology, among others. Instructors are needed in multiple language combinations, including English and Chinese, Spanish, French, Arabic, and Korean. The starting date for the position is August 25, 2014.
A masters degree or equivalent is required. Five years of professional experience as an interpreter and translator is also required. Teaching experience is preferred but not required. The scheduling of classes is flexible. The GSIT program offers courses on the UM campus during the day, evening, and on the weekend.
